Abu Dhabi Boosts Recycling
- November 05, 2025
Abu Dhabi's Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) today, November 5, 2025, unveiled an innovative smart recycling incentives program designed to dramatically boost waste diversion from landfills. The program, "Green Rewards Abu Dhabi," leverages smart technology to encourage both individual residents and businesses to actively participate in recycling efforts across the emirate. This initiative is a cornerstone of Abu Dhabi's broader sustainability agenda and its commitment to achieving zero waste targets.Under the "Green Rewards" program, participants will earn redeemable points for properly sorting and depositing recyclable materials at designated smart recycling hubs and through scheduled curbside collections. These points can then be exchanged for discounts at participating retail outlets, utility bill reductions, or even contributions to local environmental charities. The system utilizes QR codes and digital tracking to ensure transparency and reward consistent positive behavior. The program is designed to be user-friendly and highly accessible, with a dedicated mobile application providing information on recycling locations, material guidelines, and point tracking. For English-speaking expats, the app and all communication materials will be available in multiple languages, ensuring ease of participation. This move is anticipated to not only reduce waste but also cultivate a stronger sense of environmental responsibility within the community, fostering a cleaner and greener Abu Dhabi for future generations.
